History of This L88 Corvette

"The Last Documented L88 Conv." : This 1969 L88 Corvette Red Convertible, Vin #36083 Started life when it was special ordered in San Diego CA. From Guaranty Chevrolet , By a Dentist named Michael Welch and his wife Yolanda, From El Cajon, Before moving to Oak Creek Dr. in Lakeside, CA in 1977.

Michael Welch ordered some Very special items when checking off the options sheet, Tinted glass, Soft top, Hard top, Tilt/Tele wheel, Factory alarm, Speed warning, Monza Red paint, Black vinyl int. 3:70, L88 engine, Along with the mandatory HD L88 Racing equipment, F41, J56, K66, M22 Trans, He kept the L88 Till 1977 when he sold it to the second owner.

The second owner bought it from him after reading a advertisement in Vette Vews Magazine for sale ad in October 1977, He had Bill Dobson pick the car up for him , Bill worked as a artist/illustrator for Road & Track Magazine in CA. at that time, Bill was a great car guy, He also was a judge at Pebble Beach Concourse d'Elegance for 25 years, He then was bestowed a great honor after that time as he was asked to be the "Chief Honary Judge ", He spent the next 5 years in that prestige's position in California.

Asking price $9,500, sold for $7,500. His name was Joseph Mueth a Lawyer from Pasadena California, He was told at the time of purchase from him, Mike said ,That he special ordered the L88 from the Natural Bridge GM Plant in ST. Louis in 1969. Joseph owned the car from 77-87 when he sold it at a auction at Dodgers Stadium for $20,000

That is where the next person comes into play Richard Haigh, and Mike Pillsbury , Mike Pillsbury was a big time Corvette race guy, Parts, Race cars, And had a great nack on finding L88 Cars like this one. Mike was well know and respected in the Corvette & L88 Car world, Corvette Mike Vietro from CA, Drew Papsun, Steve Hendrickson, Jim Gessner who founded the Southern California chapter of the NCRS in 1981, Mike was one of 43 original members, and Jim was with Mike when he found the 1960 Cunningham LeMans #2 Racce car. Terry Michaelis from Pro Team Corvettes in Ohio, And many more will tell you great story's about him. He only had the car a few months, Till he found Brian.

Sold to Brian Dzengolewski in 87, Brian worked for Tim Thorpe who is a Corvette expert, and owns a corvette Restoration shop in IL. Brian worked for Tim at the time of Purchase when he got the call from Mike Pillsbury that the car was for sale , so after to talking to Tim Thorpe who told him the the L88 was the best car to own ,and to go buy it, So Brian went to CA. and bought the car , and wanted to drive it home back to IL. but the carbs were loading up real bad, so he had it trailered home to IL. He kept it till 2005.

Ray Norvell from Las Vegas had it for a short time.

Mike Welch ,(not related to the original owner), Bought it from Ray that same year 2005 , After a call from Chris Piscitello that this Original Survivor Red L88 Conv. was for sale At Nabors Bros,The world famous Corvette Shop in Texas Mike bought it sight un-seen after talking to Chris, Mike sold it in 2008 To Dr. Chad at Loyalty Auto. This is a 5 owner car, still in original condition (not restored) This Prestige's L88 Corvette has been in private collectors hands since 1987
